Participation in the International Clay Conference in Davos

The purpose of the 7th International Conference on Clays in Natural and Engineered Barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement was to gather together specialists in the different disciplines related to clays and clay minerals and scientists from organisations engaged in radioactive waste disposal, in order to evaluate the progress of the research being conducted in this field. The conference covered all topics related to natural argillaceous geological barriers and clay-based engineered barrier systems investigated by means of: laboratory experiments on clay samples, in situ experiments in underground research laboratories, mock-up demonstrations and natural analogues, as well as numerical modelling and integration approaches and repository monitoring. The topics covered both scientific and technological domains, documenting progress and developments in knowledge and understanding. DBE TECHNOLOGY GmbH was represented by four participants presenting recent results of research activities performed during the German R&D project ANSICHT, dealing with the development of a safety case for a high-level waste repository in clay, and the R&D project ELSA within which specific shaft sealing concepts are developed.
