On November 21, 2012, the 54th Club of Agencies Meeting took place at DBE / DBE TECHNOLOGY GmbH in Peine (Germany). In the Club of Agencies representatives of the European RWM agencies come together to inform each other on their experiences in disposal issues and the status of the national radioactive waste management programs. Furthermore a key issue will be defined for each meeting and appropriate results of the agencies will be presented and discussed at the meetings.
At the 54th Club of Agencies Meeting 21 representatives of RWM agencies from 11 countries and a representative of the European Commission took part. The special key issue of the meeting was the definition of waste acceptance criteria for repositories and the check of their compliance. On this issue the Federal office of Radiation Protection (BfS, Germany), Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA, United Kingdom) as well as the Hungarian radioactive waste management agency presented their experiences.
At the second day of the meeting, the participants visited the Konrad mine (Salzgitter, Germany) and get informed on the status of the conversion of the former iron ore mine into a repository for low and intermediate level radioactive waste
